New Directions in Theoretical Physics 2

Event description

New Directions in Theoretical Physics is a series of meetings aimed to provide a multidisciplinary setting for theoretical physicists to exchange ideas with colleagues and highlight new approaches to challenges in theoretical physics.

The January 2017 meeting will cover a broad range of topics including active matter, particle physics beyond the SM, gravitational waves, approaches to General Relativity, new ideas in QFT, cosmology, holography or star formation. The setup will be a series of invited talks with ample time for discussion after each talk. We anticipate scientific discussions among the speakers and participants and provide breakout corners for participants to further engage in discussions.

Lectures by Neil Turok entitled "The Quantum Universe" will be given in the two days preceding the New Directions meeting. These will take place on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th 10:00-12:00 in the James Clerk Maxwell Building.

Conference dinner: On the evening of Thursday 12th January you will be treated to a professional themed whisky tasting before being invited to be seated in the grand Playfair Library Hall for a delicious 3 course meal.
