Why Love vanishes in a Black Hole?
- Bill Atkins
Event description
In this talk I seek to present the mystery of vanishing Love in a Black Hole. It is well-known that Black Holes exhibit no Tidal response - characterised by their 'Love Numbers' - however to date there remains no completely satisfying explanation as to why. This talk will largely be pedagogical, focusing on outlining the theory of Black Hole Tidal responses, and highlighting recent discussions - particularly focusing on the (apparent) emergence of hidden symmetries underpinning General Relativity.
