Diffractive Cross Sections with Soft Collinear Effective Theory

In this talk I provide some of the key mathematical ingredients of the effective field theory formalism which is used to describe diffractive cross sections. This is intended as a deeper dive into the theoretical setup that leads to the final result presented in my colloquium. In particular I discuss the steps used to derive the final factorized cross section formula.
