Higgs Hour: 'Lattice calculations for high-precision tests of the Standard Model of Particle Physics'

Speaker:

Abstract

The LHC has not yet found any significant deviation from the Standard Model at large energies and thus, indirect high-precision searches for signatures of physics beyond the Standard Model at low energies become more and more important. For any quantity involving the strong nuclear force, the only known approach for an ab-initio treatment at low energies is a numerical method known as Lattice QCD. High-precision calculations using Lattice QCD are essential ingredients in finding potential small deviations between experimental measurements and theoretical predictions from the Standard Model. In this talk I will give some examples for quantities that can be used to test the Standard Model of Particle Physics and discuss the status and plans for the necessary lattice QCD calculations.
