UKCosmo at Edinburgh

Event description

UKCosmo is a series of meetings which have been taking place roughly quarterly for 25 years now, creating a forum for exchange of ideas in particle cosmology and related areas. The goal is to provide an informal setting and for many PhD students this series is their first opportunity to give a talk outside their own university.

The meeting will begin in the afternoon of Wednesday 11th November, and end around 4pm on Thursday 12th November, so that participants can travel on those days.

We will accommodate as many talk requests as we are able. Please submit your proposed title when you register. The deadline for talks to be considered for inclusion in the programme is 1st November. The Thursday morning session will be reserved for blackboard-only talks, a UK-cosmo tradition. If you talk is suitable for this format please say so when you submit your title - such talks will be given higher priority when we select the programme. We currently plan to schedule talks at 20 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions.

Support is available for participants based at UK universities. The UKcosmo grant managed by Tony Padilla will support travel and he must be contacted for pre-approval. The Higgs Centre for Theoretical Physics will support the cost of accommodation for the night of Wednesday 11th up to a maximum of 50 pounds per participant (this number may increase depending on number of registrations). Suggested guesthouses that usually have rooms around that budget (if booked far enough in advance) can be found at http://www.roe.ac.uk/ifa/about/Edinburgh_Accommodation.html Some may give a discount if you say you are coming to the Royal Observatory. Participants are responsible for making their own accommodation arrangements.

If you were unable to return your Edinburgh expenses claim form for accommodation during the meeting, please do so as soon as possible, with receipt attached, to Lyndsey Ballantyne, James Clerk Maxwell Building, The Kings Buildings, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh EH9 3FD. Travel claim forms go to Tony Padilla at Nottingham and he circulated the form by email before the meeting.

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED AS WE HAVE REACHED VENUE CAPACITY. ONLY THOSE WHO APPEAR IN THE LIST OF PARTICIPANTS ABOVE ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND.
